Granite Worktops
All our granite is sourced from ethically run mines that produce granites of the highest quality. As a company we will only provide our customers with premium grade granite and never second or sub standard quality. Granite is quarried in blocks known as ashlars which are then sliced into slabs and the top face is then polished. Once the top face is polished the quarries can then assess the quality and grade it. Each premium grade slab is then labeled and numbered so a history can be generated as to which block each slab came from and its position within the block. Using this information we can ensure that if your kitchen requires more than one slab to create your granite worktops we will use consecutive slabs so that the colour, stone contrast and pattern will be consistent. Granite is a natural and beautiful material that enhances and elevates all kitchens to a new level. Granite worktops are very easy to maintain and extremely heavy and tough. Most granites measure between 4 and 5 on the MOH (means of hardness) scale, the MOH scale is topped by a diamond which measures a huge 10 as it is the hardest known substance. Granite is formed over millions of years and can be found in most countries around the world. As each country has it's own individual history and climate, different colours and patterns are created depending on region. To date there are approximately 500 or more different varieties of granites each with their own unique patterns and colours. For many years granite worktops have only been purchased by the fabulously wealthy but over the last decade the price has come down dramatically due to the popularity and durability of the stone. These days an average cost of installing granite worktops is as little as £1,500 to £1,800. The only real substitute for the natural and individual look of granite worktops is quartz worktops.
Quartz Worktops
Quartz worktops are the natural successors to granite worktops. Quartz worktops are manufactured using rubble and stone from quarries, it is then ground down to a fine dust and mixed with a resin and allowed to dry. Most quartz worktops are made up from approximately 94% stone and 6% resin. There are two types of quartz worktops available on the market today; Breton quartz worktops and non Breton quartz worktops. Breton quartz worktops are made using Breton Spa machines. The name Breton is synonymous with the highest quality brand names such as Rolls Royce or Bentley. Breton Spa is undoubtedly the world market leader in quartz production equipment. Only the very best quartz manufacturing companies will use Breton technology due to the cost of the machinery, in fact to set up a Breton line in a factory will cost you probably in excess of twelve million euros. The cost is staggering but so is the quality of the quartz produced when using it. The benefits of using a Breton machine ensures that each slab of quartz is 99.99% identical to one another in colour, tone, thickness and pattern. Breton quartz is made not only with the Breton machines but also with the Breton resin which is supplied only to Breton customers; the resin bonds the stone together so effectively that the stone is practically non porous and nearly impossible to stain. Also built into the resin is a UV (ultra violet) filter which prevents the stone from natural light bleaching. Many companies claim to have Breton quartz and some even state that all quartz is manufactured in the same way. This is not true. If in doubt please visit the Breton web site as they have a list of manufacturers that have bought the Breton machines. Non Breton quartz is usually bought in from the far east and is sold at a very cheap price, be aware that this quartz is not manufactured to the same standards and will not have the Breton quartz features. In fact many customers who have purchased these inferior products often complain about staining and discolouring. If you purchase Breton quartz worktops they will look beautiful for many years and should be impervious to most cleaning agents and will score a massive 7 on the MOH scale. We use two quartz manufacturers for our quartz worktops; Cimstone and Stone Italiana to help us meet our customers demand. Both companies use Breton machines during their manufacturing process and can be verified by checking the Breton web site. For more information about our quartz worktops or Breton machines please feel free to contact us.
Our Installation Service
At Low Cost Worktops we offer our customers two types of installation services; the standard template and install and our one day installation service. The standard installation service consists of two visits to your home. The first visit is to make a physical template and to check sink and hob measurements and the second to install your worktops that have been prepared, cut and polished in our factory. This service usually takes between 7 to 10 days between visits. The one day installation service is as the name suggest completed in one day. When we arrive at your home we make a physical template the same as the standard installation service as well as checking all measurements for the sink and hob. Instead of taking the templates back to the factory we set up a gazebo in your garden and cut and polish your worktops then and there. There is no difference in finish as we still use water cooled machines for cutting and polishing the only difference is the time factor. Instead of taking between 7 to 10 days before your kitchen worktops are finished in can be completed in 7 to 10 hours. We use a gazebo outside your home to ensure that the mess is kept to a minimum, in fact under the gazebo we use a ground sheet which collect all mess and is collected before the gazebo is taken down. We started using this method only after listening to our customers. To make sure that our customers are happy with our installation service we only ask that the installation balance is paid once they have inspected our work and are completely satisfied. All of our installation teams are employed directly by us and they have to prove to us that they possess the necessary skills to install granite or quartz worktops to our strict standards. If you have any doubts about our installation service please contact us and we will put you in contact with many of our satisfied customers who will be only to pleased to sing our praises. We never display customer testimonials on our web site like other companies do as there is no guarantee that they are genuine, we prefer to forward customer testimonials on request to perspective customers should the need arise.
Our Payment Terms
Our payment terms are very simple we take a 50% deposit when your order is placed with the balance payable when we deliver your worktops less the installation charge. The installation charge is payable only once the installation is completed and you have checked all of your worktops and are completely satisfied with the finish.
